Reath and Draught Drop reusable beer growler case study

The challenge

Draught Drop are London's first draught beer subscription. They deliver local beers to East and North London weekly in reusable beer growlers. When they deliver, they also pick up each customer's growler from the previous week to wash and refill it. They aim to offer fresh, local products in a convenient way that reduces waste from single-use packaging. Though they are not working in plastics, Draught Drop wanted their packaging to retain its original value for as long as possible instead of entering local recycling streams after one use. Their growlers are high-value assets, and reusing them offers a strong return on investment. They needed an easy way to update and track the batches of beer going into the growlers every week, so they implemented Reath's Digital Passports.

What we did

  • Trackers were added to each growler.
  • Draught Drop scans the tracker when growlers are filled, collected and cleaned, capturing critical compliance and environmental impact data.
  • Draught Drop uses the data to reward and engage customers, and to scale and automate its filling and cleaning operations.

The results

  • Labour cost savings by digitising a manual product batch tracking system.
  • Greater customer loyalty through the ability to track and reward repeat customers for returning their containers.
  • Quantified carbon impact and waste savings across the full reuse system.
